Last video - Wye Marsh in Midland

On our way back to Midland after the military show and our last day before going back to Toronto -> A visit to the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre in Midland. An ideal relaxing day before going back to Toronto before our flight back to Belgium.

Mounted Police Musical Ride and Airshow in Borden

Thanks for the idea Bob; it was nice to be in a crowd of 'locals' on this sunny day ;-)

A real sunny day

Boat tour on Georgian Bay and visit of The Martyrs' Shrine :

Midland

Finally arrived at 'destination Bob'.

A lot of things to see in Midland, so will be spread over different vids.

Here is part I, mainly focus on missionary posts of the jesuits (1639) and wall paintings ...

... and some cooking 'action' ;-)

Video - Québec

Also some rainy days in Québec city, but we didn't mind ...

First street on the video is Rue St-Anne and if you are quick enough you can see the 'sign' of our 'Hotel St-Anne'.

At the end of the video a quick look of our bedroom and view in Wellington and last morning walk in Wellington before leaving for Midland

Tadoussac - whale watching

Luckily the whales didn't mind about the rain, although it made it very difficult for us to watch (and record)

Montréal (Biodome) and Rivière du Loup

Jul 19, 2008

Montréal (& Knowlton)

Looking at it now I regret I didn't film more in Montréal (rue St-Catherine, our Bed & Breakfast, ...). Not best quality since a big part is filmed while driving and not easy to get clear images inside the Basilique Notre-Dame-de-Montréal. But it certainly brings back the good time in Montréal ...

A second part in Montréal will follow -> inside the Biodome(part of the Olympic Park).

Video - Omega Park - Part II

Not easy to film animals, and certainly not in a moving car, but I'm glad I filmed this - especially the bears

Video - From Ottawa to Montebello

Diamant

It arrived last week and we installed it this weekend

Video - Toronto

Little films

In the coming days I'll rework what I filmed and will upload it. To have it 'small' enough for YouTube it will be max 10 min. per movie, so there will be several ones ;-)

Our last update before leaving Canada

Midland was an excellent last stop for our holidays in Canada. Thank you Bob for the great welcome and attention given - we had a great time.

Today we had (again ;-) a totally different day, since visited the nature reserve Wye Marsh in Midland. A very beautiful reserve and so pleasant to walk there and just hear all the birds and frogs.

Besides the paths in the woods there was also a floating boardwalk of 1,5 km on the marsh.

We left for Toronto around 2 PM, to make sure to be in time to have the car returned and saw Patrick again around 6 PM. Our last dinner in Church Street and than a walk in the part of Yonge street that we didn't see yet.

Tomorrow we'll be leaving at 8 PM with flight 9W225 and (normally ;-) arrive at home on Wednesday 9h40.

It's a pity this great trip almost comes to an end, but good things always have an end and we need to return to work to earn money for our next holidays :-D

Diamant by Marie-Andrée Leblond

The painting we ordered will normally arrive at home in 1 week

Canadian Mounties + Air show + beach

Yesterday we ended the day with some very good home made lemon-chocolate cake and this morning we had some home-made cake with dates in it :-p We have really been part of a big crowd going to the Canadian Forces Day and Air Show in Borden today. The part I liked the most was the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride. It is very hard to put that on photo or video, but at least it gives an idea of what it looked like. Second part was the airshow, but since it was not easy to take pictures of the planes in the air I took some of the ones on the ground ;-) Again a day with a lot of sun and a bit of rain, so ideal to avoid that it gets really hot and allow us to stay out for a couple of hours. On the drive back - before going to the restaurant - we passed by some local beaches for a drink and a little walk. This is the last picture I took before we left for dinnerAnd the one when we arrived at Bob's place

Lots of things to do in Midland

It,s raining now (at 8 PM) but we had a very sunny day today (like Patrick, Pong & Michael in Ottawa ;-))with up to 26 degrees. We didn't choose for the eggs and bacon this morning, so after a very healthy breakfast - enough eggs & bacon the last days ;-) - we went to Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. A very nice recreated 17th century French Jesuit mission headquarters explaining the interactions of the French and native Wendat Huron nation. A little picture with our 'Canada T-shirt', one of the gifts we received from Bob at our arrival in Midland :-D It took us almost 3 hours to visit the outside and watch some of the live exhibitions (natives telling about their believes, etc.. singing, ...). We had no time left to visit the museumm, since planned to take the boat trip around Georgian Bay starting in Penetanguishene. A boat trip of 3,5 hours in this magnificent bay. Last visit of the day was to Martyr's Shrine. This Shrine honours the eight Jesuit saints who lived, worked and died here over 350 years ago. Very special ceiling inside = like a reversed canoe Very big area with even a specific Altar 'Papal Altar' which was used by the Pope in 1989. You feel like a star on such a stage in front of a very large open space. I did a little YMCA dance ;-) : We didn't expect Midland to be such a dynamic town with so many things to see and apparently we are not the only tourists who think so. Several other ones in Sainte-Marie and many people on the boat trip (although not too much, but the Italian ladies made noise for 20 ;-).

Still alive and had our first day in Midland

As expected, no internet in Wellington yesterday. It it a very nice and 'romantic' place but it's in the middle of nowhere. So, ideal to rest and just have a stop after a trip of 7 hours. The Devonshire Inn was excellent, with a nice view on the lake while having dinner/breakfast.

Since not very good weather after breakfast we couldn't even go for a walk, so immediately left for Midland.
Nice to finally see Bob.

We visited Huronia and its museum and now know more about the Indians as well as where the 'Slenderyou' comes from

A little drive in the streets to have a look at the different wall paintings :

And now you can see where I got the picture for the header of my blog -> The Trumpet Swan from Midland (and indeed, we have some sun again today) ;-)

About the food

I did not mention anything about the food in Canada yet.

Till now we ate very well. Very good and fresh food and very nicely prepared and presented.

This noon was less of a success because very hard fried french fries in the poutine. So this is the first time our meal was not excellent.

And also the ice cream and the muffins are very nice :-D Today I ate some excellent maple ice cream ...

PS1 : Suwat is doing much better with the cream he received for his allergy.
PS2 : Long drive to Wellington tomorrow (and drop of Suwat and Patrick in Montreal) & I am not sure they will have internet in the B&B in Wellington, so next post could be after our late arrival in Midland on Friday.

Quebec

The whale watching yesterday morning was very nice, even if the rain did not always allow us to put our head outside the boat ;-) Luckily for us whales do not mind about bad weather and we could see 3 different species.

While waiting to board the ferry to leave Tadoussac we had to stop right after this car. The closest we got to a whale - probably stranded.

After 2,5 days rain it was sunny when we arrived in Quebec yesterday

However, that did not last long. Patrick & Suwat went to the doctor since Suwat is having some allergy problems for some days. We decided to look for an internet cafe but when we were out for 10 min. an enormous shower started. We waited for 20 min. but finally had to decide to run to the hotel. Soaking wet, we changed clothes and decided to eat at the restaurant of the hotel in the evening.

This morning, again some rain but we made a big walk to visit the old Quebec. Many nice houses to see, but very touristic and extremely clean.

Around 1PM sun came back and that is much nicer.

1 day without update of the blog

No update of the blog yesterday since :

- no pictures of whales (but we have a bit on film)
- no internet at the hotel, right in the historical centre : http://www.hotelste-anne.com/
- we had to shelter 20 min for the rain when wanting to go to the internet cafe
- other excuses we cannot think of right now ;-)

Are we still in the same country ?

After breakfast we left Riviere du Loup and took the ferry to Saint-Simeon (1h30).

A shorter drive today with a second ferry (short one) to Tadoussac.

It`s really different here - A lot of green and some hills. I wonder how this must be when there is sun since it`s already very nice in the rain (whole day rain today).

The hotel is magnificent, so compensates for the bad weather ;-)

We made a small trip to Cap-de-Bon-Desir since there is an observation point, but except this nice lighthouse there was not much to see.

Tomorrow we have our whale watching at 9h30 and after that (in the afternoon) we`ll drive to Quebec.
