Midland

Finally arrived at 'destination Bob'.

A lot of things to see in Midland, so will be spread over different vids.

Here is part I, mainly focus on missionary posts of the jesuits (1639) and wall paintings ...

... and some cooking 'action' ;-)

It is so nice to see your excellent video showing some of the attractions you saw while visiting Midland. It is sad that the Huron Ouendat Indian Village has not been fully rebuilt since the fire in May 2007 in which many of the artifacts were lost. At least Philippe was able to try his hand at grinding corn the way the natives did many years ago and he also shows his proficiency at the game of 'Duck On A Rock' and he like many a young brave who became skillful at this game would be able to hit a duck with a rock and bring home something to eat.

It is good to see some of the 34 murals that are painted on the outside walls of buildings throughout the downtown, representing an important time in the history of this Georgian Bay area, including the largest historic outdoor mural in North America.

You also show a wonderful view of the stainless steel Trumpeter Swan Sculpture located in the Harbourside Park. This was a millenium project to raise funds for the reestablishment of Trumpeter Swans to The Wye Marsh.

Ste. Marie Among the Hurons is also well represented in your video and it was by good fortune that it just happened to be Aboriginal Day and you were able to experience and film some demonstrations of native drumming and dancing, something that is only available on special occasions. Oh, and your cooking demonstration of 'bannock on a stick' what can I say it is simply memorable and I survived eating it;-) Special days like this one spent with good friends are not long enough, they should have more hours.
